!!!!!!!  Installation Notes for the above Antennas:   These antennas use a bulkhead Connector, put bulk head thru the ground plane then the panel cover, lock washer and then the nut goes on.  Then screw the antenna on.  Make sure that your instrument panel cover, ground plane (if needed), lock washer  is not too thick.  If it is too thick the antenna will not screw on enough to make good antenna contact.

Ground Plane Information

  • A ground plane is required with both rod style and shark fin style transponder and FLARM antennas that are not dipole antennas.
  • 1/2 Wave Dipole PN 500101 and the PowerFlarm Dipole do not require ground planes.
  • The smallest recommended ground plane would be the length of antenna inches radius).  So a 4" antenna length ground plane would be 8" optimal.
  • Ground planes can be round or square.  Many discussions on which is best.
  • Carbon fiber glider fuselages, the antenna mounted on the outside of the fuselage, ground plane on the inside.
  • The mounting screws or bulkhead mounting are connected to the antenna ground.
  • The ground plane can curve and follow the inside of the glider fuselage.
